LIMA, Aug 15 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte on Monday underscored the importance of guaranteeing a healthy diet for girls and boys at school so as to ensure their learning and future development.
Within this framework, she mentioned that the Qali Warma school food program seeks to guarantee students’ concentration at classrooms.
The president insisted on a commitment to a nutritious diet cooked with healthy products such as ollucos, beetroots, potatoes, spinach, quinoa or tarwi, better known as chocho in some Peruvian regions.
Likewise, she congratulated more than 60 schools that had opted to go hand-in-hand with Peruvian farmers, who organized themselves into cooperatives to become suppliers for the State-run social program and bring safe food to school students.
The Head of State called for continuing to make progress thanks to the joint effort undertaken by the three levels of government, agricultural producers, micro and small enterprises.
“The economy of a country is made up of you (MSEs); and if you do not embrace one another and the Government, we will not move forward,” she said during her participation in the ceremony marking the startup of Escuelas Sostenibles Perú (Peru Sustainable School) technical mission —within the framework of the Sustainable School Food Network.
Development-Social Inclusion Minister Julio Demartini and United Nations Resident Coordinator in Peru Igor Garafulic participated in the event as well. — NNN-ANDINA
