KABUL, Aug 14 (NNN-ANA) – A total of 16 foreign nationals are held in jails in Afghanistan, the state-run news agency, Bakhtar, reported yesterday.
“A total of 16 foreign nationals, including five women, have been held in the country’s prisons,” Bakhtar quoted jail official, Mohammad Yusuf Mestari, as saying.
According to the official, the news agency put the number of detainees in Afghan prisons as high as 16,000, including 16 foreigners and 1,194 women.
The news agency did not identify the nationalities of the foreign detainees.
However, the official added that, all the detainees are criminals, and no political prisoner has been in custody in Afghanistan.– NNN-ANA
