LIMA, Aug 13 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte affirmed that Peru will boost trade between the Pacific Alliance and Asian countries.

Boluarte led the ceremony marking the presentation of Peru’s Pro-Tempore Presidency at the Pacific Alliance —a bloc also composed of Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.

We have to move towards a more global Pacific Alliance. In this sense, from the Pro-Tempore Presidency assumed by Peru, we will work on the international outreach (of the bloc) with special emphasis on the Asia-Pacific (region),” she said.

Within this framework, the Head of State announced that the prompt entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Singapore will be encouraged. It will turn the aforementioned Asian country into the first associated State of this alliance.

“Similarly, we will promote the start of the negotiation of a free trade agreement with the Republic of Korea, and we will explore conditions for the resumption of similar negotiations with Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. All these allied and strategic countries are in the Pacific basin,” she specified.

The top official stressed that Peru will assume the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum Presidency in 2024, which is why this country will seek to promote a rapprochement between the two blocs during the period.

“In order to help strengthen the link to Asia-Pacific, we will boost a rapprochement between the two blocs so as to strengthen an exchange of experiences on a common agenda,” she indicated.

The top official mentioned that bloc members are united by the objective of working to achieve well-being for the 233 million citizens of the four countries.

“The agenda that we have ahead of us in the alliance is wide and varied. I am convinced that by prioritizing substantive and technical work we will be able to fulfill the goals and many other ambitious ones for the well-being of our nations,” she pointed out. — NNN-AGENCIES
