Temperature Hits 40 Degrees Celsius In Central Japan

TOKYO, Aug 11 (NNN-NHK) – Japan’s weather agency said yesterday that, the mercury reached 40 degrees Celsius in a central Japan city, as scorching heat continues to grip the Japanese archipelago.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said that, yesterday’s high was 40 degrees in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, on the Sea of Japan, tying with this year’s record high logged in Date City in Fukushima Prefecture on Aug 5.

Temperatures climbed to 39.6 degrees in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture, and 39.3 degrees in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, said the JMA.

Weather officials said, it was the first time that the temperature has topped 38 degrees in Aomori, in the country’s north, since record-taking began.

JMA warned that, the heat will linger on today, with the day’s high expected to hit 39 degrees in Tottori City, Toyooka City in Hyogo Prefecture and Nagaoka City in Niigata Prefecture.– NNN-NHK
