Doctors Remove 15 Kg Tumour From Woman’s Abdomen In Madhya Pradesh

NEW DELHI, Aug 10 (NNN-PTI) – Doctors in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, removed a 15 kg tumour from a woman’s abdomen, officials said yesterday.

The tumour was removed from the woman’s body during a two-hour-long surgery, at a private hospital in Indore, about 193 km west of Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh.

The surgery was conducted after the 41-year-old woman visited the hospital, complaining of abdominal pain.

“The decision to carry out the medical procedure was taken, since the tumour was huge and causing trouble for the patient, while eating and even walking,” Dr. Atul Vyas, who was part of the team of surgeons, said.

According to Vyas, the patient was suffering from an ovarian tumour for months.

The surgery was performed by a team involving more than a dozen doctors and support staff. Doctors said, the patient weighed 49 kg and carried a 15 kg tumour inside her.

“The team had to be extremely cautious while performing the surgery, since any mistake could have been fatal,” Vyas said. “The tumour covered many nerves and doctors had to handle the situation delicately.”

The patient is stated to be stable and out of danger.

Doctors fear that, had the tumour remained inside the patient’s body a little longer, it could have burst inside and endangered the patient’s life.– NNN-PTI
