Four Fishermen Missing After Boats Sank Amid Huge Waves, Off East Java

JAKARTA, Aug 9 (NNN-ANTARA) – Four fishermen have gone missing, after their boats were hit by huge waves and sank, in waters off Indonesia’s East Java province, according to an official of the local search and rescue agency, yesterday.

A rescue team is still working to search for the people going missing on Monday evening, Yoni Fariza, the coordinator at Trenggalek Search and Rescue agency, told local media.

The tragedy occurred at around 7.30 p.m. local time in the waters of Gladak Beach, where two traditional boats, owned by the fishermen from the district of Trenggalek crashed and sunk, after being hit by huge waves, said the official.

According to him, each boat had four people on board and departed from the nearby fishing port in the afternoon. The boats, which were close to each other, were hit by waves and capsized with all people falling into the sea.– NNN-ANTARA
