Myanmar Exported Over 800,000 Tonnes Of Corn In Four Months Of 2023-24 FY

YANGON, Aug 8 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar exported over 800,000 tonnes of corn in the first four months of the 2023-24 fiscal year starting from Apr 1, according to the Myanmar Corn Industrial Association (MCIA) yesterday.

The country earned more than 240 million U.S. dollars from the corn export, during the four months, the MCIA said.

The export of corn this year was not good, due to the decline of the corn price in the global market and policy issues, said Phyo Ko Ko Naing, vice chairman of the MCIA.

About 65 percent of the country’s corn is cultivated and produced in Shan State, while about 10 percent of the corn is grown and produced in Ayeyarwaddy Region, he said, adding that, corn is also cultivated in Mandalay and Bago regions and Kayin and Kachin states.

Myanmar annually produces about 3.2 million tonnes of corn, of which about two million tonnes are exported to foreign markets, he added.

Myanmar’s total export between Apr 1 and Jul 28 this year, was valued at over 5.09 billion dollars, the Ministry of Commerce’s figures showed.– NNN-MNA
