Peruvian President meets with Brazilian counterpart

BELEM DO PARA (Brazil), Aug 8 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte on Monday evening held a bilateral meeting with Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, where they discussed issues such as bilateral trade and environmental care.

On the occasion, they also discussed climate change and the protection of indigenous communities.

Also participating in the event were Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia GervasiPeruvian Ambassador to Brazil, Romulo Acurio; and General Director of Protocol and Ceremonies of the Peruvian State, Jaime Cacho-Sousa.

Pres Boluarte arrived at 6:48 p.m. (local time) at the air base in Belem do Para —the city where the Fourth Presidential Meeting of the States Parties to the Amazon Cooperation Treaty will be held on Tuesday.

She is expected to deliver a speech at the event, where the complex problems facing the Amazon region will be discussed, such as forest fires, extractive activities, carbon loss, illegal logging, among others.

During her stay in Belem do Para, President Boluarte will be accompanied by Ministers Ana Cecilia Gervasi (Foreign Affairs) and Albina Ruiz (Environment), as well as by Peruvian Ambassador to Brazil, Romulo Acurio.

Previously, on her way to Brazil, she continued to address issues important for Peru, related to economic recovery and security. The topics will be discussed at the next Council of Ministers session.

This comes in compliance with Law No.31810 which provides that in the event that the President of the Republic must leave the national territory and there are no acting vice-presidents,” the dignitary will remain in charge of the presidential office remotely. — NNN-ANDINA
