LIMA, Aug 5 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte said she is confident that Parliament will grant the Executive Branch the requested legislative powers to fight crime.
During her speech to commemorate Judge’s Day, the Head of State said the Executive and Legislative Branches, joined by the Judiciary, will act to enforce the rule of law in Peru.
“I am confident that Parliament will grant us the requested powers and, united the State branches, we will act to enforce our rule of law,” she stated.
The top official indicated that, among the various challenges faced by Peru, insecurity due to crime and criminality “is the one that generates the most anguish,” hence the request issued for Congress to grant her administration powers to legislate in this regard during 120 days.
The president pointed out that the intention behind said request is to approve more than 30 regulations to fight crime.
These include measures referring to criminal actions such as theft and mobile phone robbery for later use or sale.
Furthermore, President Boluarte said “Peru is consolidating its democratic regime hand-in-hand with its institutions,” including the Legislative and Judicial Branches.
In this sense, the Head of State pointed out that “the work of judges and prosecutors is essential in this task.”
Moreover, the top official reminded citizens that judges’ main task is to resolve conflicts, adding that they also have an important duty of promoting legal certainty and guaranteeing people’s rights.
Boluarte also said she seeks to fill a legal vacuum, establishing the possibility that foreigners who are captured in flagrante delicto cases can be expelled from Peru. Therefore, a regulation would be added to the Penal Code, she indicated. — NNN-ANDINA
