TEHRAN, Aug 3 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran and Belarus have called for expanding bilateral defence cooperation, to ensure regional security in face of the Western sanctions.
The call was made during a meeting between Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Mohammad Baqeri and visiting Belarusian Defence Minister, Viktor Khrenin, in Tehran.
Baqeri expressed satisfaction with the favourable and growing bilateral relations, saying, the Iranian and Belarusian armed forces should increase their exchange of experiences in the defence sector, hold joint military drills and expand military cooperation in the areas of science and education.
Given the rapid shift in the global power structure, from a unilateral system to a multilateral one, Iran and Belarus should further enhance their defence and security cooperation, against the Western sanctions, he added.
The Belarusian defence minister, for his part, expressed confidence that cooperation between the two countries can improve security in their regions.
Khrenin signed a memorandum of understanding with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammadreza Ashtiani, for cooperation in the defence sector on Monday, just after his arrival in Tehran on an official visit.– NNN-IRNA
