UNITED NATIONS, Aug 3 (NNN-XINHUA) — Hunger and displacement due to the ongoing war are spiralling out of control in Sudan, UN humanitarians warned.
More than 6 million people in Sudan, about 13 percent of the population, are now one step away from famine, said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
According to the office, over 20 million people are facing high levels of acute food insecurity across Sudan due to the conflict, economic decline and mass displacement.
Citing data from the International Organization for Migration and the UN Refugee Agency, OCHA said more than 3 million people have been displaced inside Sudan since the conflict started in mid-April, and over 855,000 people have fled to neighboring countries. — NNN-XINHUA
