TEHRAN, Aug 3 (NNN-IRNA) – Iranian police have seized more than nine tonnes of narcotics in the capital Tehran, since the beginning of the Iranian calendar year, which fell on Mar 21, this year, Tehran’s Police Commander, Abbas-Ali Mohammadian, said yesterday.
At an event, displaying the police’s discoveries and seizures over the past four months, Mohammadian said, the figure represents a year-on-year increase of 48 percent, as Iranian police stepped up their efforts to root out drug trafficking in the country.
Between Jul 19 and 28, more than 2.2 tonnes of drugs were seized in Tehran, he added.
More than 200 tonnes of narcotics were seized across the country since Mar 21, he noted.– NNN-IRNA
