OIC Chief Strongly Condemned Coup In Niger

RIYADH, Jul 30 (NNN-SPA) – The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has strongly condemned Wednesday’s military coup in Niger, that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.

OIC Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha, is following with great concern over the developments in Niger, an OIC member state, said the report.

The OIC chief denounced any attempt to seize power by force, and demanded the immediate release of the president and the restoration of the rule of law in the country, it added.

Taha expressed his solidarity with the people of Niger and the OIC’s full support for regional efforts towards restoring peace, security and stability to the West African country, as well as, to the entire Sahel region.

Soldiers in Niger have overthrown Bazoum, the democratically elected president, the country’s Defence and Security Forces said in a press release, broadcast on national television late Wednesday, hours after the president was allegedly held hostage.– NNN-SPA
