Australian Bureau Launches Investigation Over Fatal Plane Crash In Queensland

BRISBANE, Jul 29 (NNN-AAP) – The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), has launched a transport safety investigation, after two single-engine light aircraft collided at Caboolture Airport in Queensland, yesterday.

The national transport safety investigator confirmed that the incident occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. local time, when a Jabiru J430 was taking off from one runway, while a Piper Pawnee was landing on a crossing runway.

Both occupants of the Jabiru were fatally injured, but the Pawnee pilot was uninjured.

ATSB said that, some investigators already arrived at the scene, with more to join them this morning.

“Investigators will begin gathering evidence by mapping the accident site, examining the aircraft wreckage, interviewing the surviving pilot and witnesses, and collecting relevant recorded information, such as any CCTV footage and flight tracking data,” said the bureau, also calling on possible witnesses to provide information.

A preliminary report is expected to be published in approximately six to eight weeks.– NNN-AAP
