LIMA, July 27 (NNN-ANDINA) — Economy and Finance Minister Alex Contreras on Wednesday ruled out that Peru’s economy may have entered a recession.

Within this framework, the Cabinet member affirmed that a large part of the Con Punche Peru (Peru with Strength) plan measures will be implemented during the second half of the current year.

This was stated following the Council of Ministers session held at the Government Palace earlier Wednesday when asked if he ruled out any recession in Peru’s economy.

“Yes, indeed. When we launched the Con Punche Peru plan, we precisely wanted to avoid that, for the economy to enter recession, and what matters the most is that a large part of these measures will be implemented during the third and fourth quarters, Contreras indicated.

That is why we are betting on the recovery, but as we have said, we want to ensure that this happens; that is why we are going to announce measures very soon,” he added.

On the other hand, the high-ranking official kept the inflation projection for July 2023 below 6%.

The Cabinet member said the prices of some goods usually increase and those of others decrease. Thus, he recommended replacing higher-priced products with lower-priced ones.

“We maintain the projection that inflation will drop below 6% in July, 5.9% is our latest projection this month, and we expect that it will materialize on Saturday, which is the day the figures will be presented by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI),” he specified. — NNN-ANDINA
