Over 200 Locations Across Japan Log Temperatures Over 35 Degrees Celsius

TOKYO, Jul 27 (NNN-NHK) – Japan’s weather agency said, more than 200 observation points across the country logged temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius or higher, yesterday, with some places seeing their hottest day this year.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said, the mercury soared to 39.7 degrees in Hatoyama Town, Saitama Prefecture, near Tokyo, which tied for this year’s highest temperature in Japan, observed in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture on Jul 16.

Central Tokyo recorded a high of 37.7 degrees, its hottest day this year. The mercury has exceeded 35 degrees on eight days this month, a record for July, surpassing the seven days recorded in 2001, according to the JMA.

Weather officials said the intense heat is expected to continue through today, advising people to use air conditioning appropriately and to stay hydrated.– NNN-NHK
