QUITO, Jul 25 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Ecuadorian President, Guillermo Lasso, declared yesterday, a 60-day state of emergency in the country’s three violence-roiled regions.
“We decided to declare a state of emergency and curfew from 10.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m. in the provinces of Manabi and Los Rios, and in the canton of Duran in Guayas province,” Lasso announced on social media.
The decree, which will take effect immediately, came after Agustin Intriago, mayor of the coastal city of Manta, was assassinated Sunday, in an armed attack.
Lasso called for a meeting today, with local authorities and the Security Council, to discuss how to address the surge of violence, particularly along the coast, which has witnessed a rash of shootings in recent months.– NNN-PRENSA LATINA
