CALLAO (Peru), July 22 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte called for the unity of all Peruvians, with the aim of boosting the country’s development.

“Let’s move the stalled public works forward, but also (those) in the country’s interior so as to improve the connectivity of our towns,” she expressed during the inspection of Lima and Callao Metro Line 2 works.

“Our population cannot wait any longer; it deserves (a) fast, modern, and safe transportation (system). United everything, disunited we all lose,” she added.

The Head of State indicated that the population currently suffers distress when going to their work or study places because of traffic congestion.

“This situation cannot be allowed to go on; we have to start solving this major problem because improving people’s quality of life also means providing them with better education, healthcare, and potable water (services), as well as a transportation system that enables them to move without any setbacks but safely,” she said.

Boluarte deemed Metro Line 2 as “a work of the future” and “one of the most important for the capital.”

“This is the first underground train in Peru that will unite 10 districts of the capital. Therefore, we have to continue seeking that dialogue and that peace. Peru needs to move forward,” she expressed.

This system will transport one million people per day and be the first step for the modernization of transportation in Peru.

Citizens will be able to move from Lima’s eastern Ate district to Callao region (west of Lima) in just 45 minutes, Boluarte noted.

Furthermore, the president proposed that this type of works be replicated at the regional level, with due preservation of the cities.

“We also have to be ambitious; in the main cities of our country’s regions we have to think properly and, from the first minute, implement this type of underground roads so that the city remains beautiful (above ground) and the efficiency of transportation goes underground,” she specified.

In turn, Transportation and Communications Minister Paola Lazarte confirmed that her sector will put into operation the first kilometers of Lima and Callao Metro Line 2 this year.

“We do not want (Metro) Line 2 to become a white elephant due to administrative interference or opposition of other kinds. We want its construction to become a reality,” she underlined. — NNN-ANDINA
