YANGON, Jul 18 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar exported more than 517 tonnes of honey worth over 776,000 U.S. dollars, in the first quarter of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, said yesterday.
The country exported 100.41 tonnes of honey in Apr, 336.7 tonnes in May, and over 80 tonnes in June, to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and Singapore, the Apiculture Division under the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department of the ministry said.
“The exports of honey during the period this year were up about 15 percent, as compared to the same period last year,” U Soe Naing, an official at the ministry, said yesterday.
He said that, the apiculture division was importing queen bees from foreign countries and distributing them to bee farmers, in order to assist the bee growers. The department was actively involved in fostering the development of private-sector beekeeping businesses, he added.
The country produces about 7,000 tonnes of honey annually.
Myanmar’s exported animal products, including honey, were valued at 1.682 million dollars during the Apr-Jun period this year, showed the data from the Ministry of Commerce.
The country exports agricultural, animal, marine, minerals and forest products, as well as, manufactured goods.– NNN-MNA
