US: At least 6 explosions, fire confirmed at chemical plant; no casualties

HOUSTON, July 16 (NNN-XINHUA) — At least six explosions and a fire broke out late Friday night at the Dow Chemical Plant in Plaquemine, in the southern U.S. state Louisiana, according to the state’s Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi.

The explosions shook homes in the nearby state capital, Baton Rouge, local media outlet WAFB TV reported.

All personnel at the facilities are safe and have been accounted for, the U.S. chemical maker said in a statement posted on social media.

“Air monitoring has not detected hazardous materials in the air,” the statement said.

A shelter in place order, issued by the Iberville Parish Council Office Of Emergency Preparedness for residents in a half-mile radius after the explosions, has been lifted hours later. — NNN-XINHUA
