Flu Cases In Japan Remain Above Epidemic Level

TOKYO, Jul 15 (NNN-NHK) – The average number of flu patients per medical institution in Japan in the seven-day period through Sunday, remained above the threshold of 1.0 per hospital, indicating an epidemic, government data showed, yesterday.

The health ministry said, the average number of flu patients reported by some 5,000 regularly monitored hospitals across the country came to 1.66, up 0.4 from the preceding week.

The figure had never remained above the threshold in July, since the current counting method began in 1999, said the ministry.

By prefecture, the per-hospital number of flu patients was the highest in Kagoshima at 27.31, followed by Nagasaki at 9.13 and Miyazaki at 8.83, all in the Kyushu south-western region.– NNN-NHK
