TOKYO, Jul 15 (NNN-NHK) – Three cases of leakage, involving toxic per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), between 2010 and 2012, have been confirmed at the U.S. military’s Yokota base in western Tokyo, Japan’s top government spokesman said, yesterday.
Chief Cabinet Secretary, Hirokazu Matsuno, told the day’s press conference that relevant ministries and local authorities will work together to continue to take necessary measures.
Meanwhile, Matsuno avoided a clear comment on whether the government will request an on-site inspection of the U.S. base under the Japan-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement.
The U.S. military claims that, there was no recognition of any PFAS leaks outside the base, although they have not provided detailed information regarding the amount leaked, Japanese newspaper, Asahi Shimbun, reported.– NNN-NHK
