Iraqi FM, Arab League Chief Discuss Efforts To Resolve Crises In Arab World

BAGHDAD, Iraq, May 2 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi Foreign Minister, Mohammed al-Hakim, on Wednesday, held a phone call with Arab League (AL) Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, to discuss efforts to solve crises of some Arab countries.

A statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said, al-Hakim “affirmed Iraq’s readiness to exert efforts, to bring closer the views of the conflicting parties and to provide solutions, under the sponsorship of the AL.”

Meanwhile, al-Hakim made another phone call with Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel al-Jubeir, and “discussed means to strengthen bilateral relations, to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples,” a separate ministry statement said.

The two ministers also discussed “regional and international issues, and the importance of bilateral cooperation,” the statement added.

The two phone calls came, as part of Iraq’s efforts to restore its Arab and regional role, especially after its territorial victory against the extremist Daesh militants.

Iraqi Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, repeatedly confirmed his government’s vision to establish partnership, cooperation and exchange of interests with all Arab countries, as well as, neighbouring countries, in order to promote opportunities of stability and prosperity in the region.– NNN-NINA
