CUSCO (Peru), July 13 (NNN-ANDINA) — Entrance tickets to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu offered in the city of Cusco have sold out until August; however, they can only be purchased at Machu Picchu Town’s Cultural Center, the Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) in Cusco announced.
According to a release, tickets offered through virtual platforms, in person, and at the sales center on Garcilaso Street (Cusco’s Historic Center) are no longer available.
Nonetheless, tickets can be purchased in person in Machu Picchu Town —also known as Aguas Calientes.
In the document, the DDC Cusco pointed out that there is currently “a high demand from visitors.”
For example, the 1,000 tickets authorized for Tuesday became sold out that day, which is why the DDC asks guests to take precautions.
Similarly, it called on visitors not to be misled by informal (tour) agencies or operators, which aware of the daily admission capacity at the monument and the limit, might offer the trip and the access, even when there are no more tickets to access the llaqta, thus “generating situations and discomfort that affect the proper management of Machu Picchu.”
The Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) in Cusco emphasizes that, due to the conservation deserved by the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu as suggested by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), 4,044 visitors are allowed into the area per day.
Faced with this situation, the DDC Cusco reiterated the recommendation to take precautions and make reservations and the corresponding payment for entrance to the llaqta, with due anticipation, in order to avoid unnecessary crowds and long lines at ticket sales offices located at Machu Picchu Town’s Cultural Center.
“These actions will allow guests to visit the Machu Picchu llaqta, without facing any inconvenience, thus contributing significantly to its conservation,“ it said. — NNN-ANDINA
