KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 6 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia’s e-commerce income, surged 10.4 percent year-on-year to 291.7 billion ringgit (62.6 billion U.S. dollars), in the first quarter of 2023, official data showed today.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), said in a statement that, this growth was primarily driven by the manufacturing and services sectors.
As for 2022, the e-commerce income rose six percent year-on-year to 1.1 trillion ringgit.
According to DOSM, the growth can be attributed to the Malaysian government’s initiatives, aimed at establishing a regional e-commerce gateway, investing in e-commerce startups, promoting innovation through a regulatory sandbox, and enhancing communication and broadband facilities.
It said that, these efforts have yielded substantial economic benefits, including increased adoption of digital technology and overall improved performance.– NNN-BERNAMA
