Peru: Gov’t strengthens ties with African countries through series of virtual conferences

LIMA, JulY (NNN-ANDINA) — The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Directorate General of Africa, Middle East, and Gulf Countries, held the second edition of the “Meet the Team” virtual conferences in June this year.

The activity is part of a strategy to develop more fluid interactions between officials of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and their counterparts from Africa’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs, through their concurrent embassies.

This second edition saw the participation of the Embassy of Kenya in Brazil. It should be noted that Peru is planning to open an Embassy in Nairobi, the capital of said African country.

Likewise, the event featured other African diplomatic missions, such as those of Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, which are concurrent at the Peruvian Embassies in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile.

The conferences were held on three different dates in June, in the most spoken languages in Africa: French, English, and Portuguese, which encouraged initiatives to strengthen the bilateral agenda.

One of the central aspects was the cultural component. Thus, embassies were invited to participate in the celebration of the Peruvian-African Friendship Day —an activity that takes place every year in October.

Moreover, the embassies were invited to take part in the 8th African Film Cycle, in which various African film productions are screened for a week; and in the Cumanana Cultural Bulletin, which is virtually disseminated through embassies and permanent representations of Peru abroad every month. — NNN-ANDINA
