Tanzania’s Judicial Body Sacked 32 Magistrates In Eight Years Over Indiscipline

DAR ES SALAAM, Jun 25 (NNN-IRIN) – The Tanzania Judicial Commission said, it has sacked 32 magistrates in the last eight years, for lack of discipline.

Ibrahim Juma, chairperson of the commission, who is also Tanzania’s chief justice, said, during the same period, starting from 2015 to 2022, about 37 magistrates were retired, on public interest.

Juma announced disciplinary actions taken against unruly magistrates, during a meeting, convened by the Tanzania Judicial Commission, in Tabora region.

The meeting was convened to enable judiciary stakeholders to give their views and discuss ways of improving the judiciary.

Juma said, during the period under review, the Tanzania Judicial Commission reviewed 99 complaints related to the conduct of magistrates.

The Tanzania Judicial Commission has six members overseeing 5,000 judiciary servants, including 1,500 magistrates and judges.– NNN-IRIN
