NEW DELHI, Jun 15 (NNN-PTI) – India’s seafood exports hit an all-time high at 8.09 billion U.S. dollars in fiscal year 2022-23 (Apr, 2022-Mar, 2023), said the federal Commerce and Industry Ministry, yesterday.

The seafood exports increased by 26.73 percent in terms of quantity, during the cited period.

During the period, the United States was the largest importer of Indian seafood products, followed by China, the European Union, Southeast Asia, Japan and the Middle East, the ministry said in a statement.

“Seafood exports to the U.S. declined by 21.94 percent due to sluggish demand,” the ministry added.

Frozen shrimp retained the top position as the major exported seafood item, worth 5.48 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 67.72 percent of the total seafood exports.

The second largest exported item was frozen fish, earning 687.05 million U.S. dollars, or 8.49 percent of the total seafood export earnings.– NNN-PTI
