BRASILIA, June 14 (NNN-XINHUA) — Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva unveiled a large-scale infrastructure construction program to spur development starting in July.
“We decided … to launch a great public works program for national development starting July 2, with infrastructure projects in all areas,” he announced on “Conversation with the President,” a program aired by state-owned broadcaster Brasil de Comunicacion.
The program has been dubbed the New PAC, in reference to the original Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) launched during Lula’s previous terms as president.
According to the government, public works projects will focus on six areas — transportation, urban development, social infrastructure, water, communications and energy.
“We must rebuild Brazil,” the president said. — NNN-XINHUA
