Sunflower Farmers In North India End Protests After Demand Met

NEW DELHI, Jun 14 (NNN-PTI) – Farmers in India’s northern state of Haryana, called off their protests last night, after the state government agreed to honour its promise, as demanded over a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of 6,400 Indian rupees (about 77.50 U.S. dollars) per quintal (100 kilograms) for their sunflower crops.

The protest lasted for a few days, with farmers blocking roads, including the national highway connecting Haryana’s capital Chandigarh to Delhi.

Farmers’ leader, Rakesh Tikait, announced the end of protest after protesters’ demand that the state government honour its promise on the farm produce procurement price was met.

“We are ending our protest. The blocked roads will be opened today. We were protesting so that our crops are purchased at MSP,” Tikait told media.– NNN-PTI
