PUL-I-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Jun 13 (NNN-ANA) – Afghanistan’s counter-narcotics police, destroyed two drug processing labs in the northern Baghlan province and arrested two people, on charges of involvement in illegal drug business, the provincial police said, yesterday.
Based on a tip-off, the police launched operations in Tala-o-Barfak district, of the province late Sunday and, as a result, the two drug processing labs were destroyed and two suspects taken into custody, the police said in a statement.
According to the statement, a large number of drugs and materials used in manufacturing heroin have been seized and destroyed during the operations.
Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the supreme leader of the Afghan caretaker administration, issued a decree in Apr last year, to ban the cultivation of illegal crops, including poppy, its processing into drugs and drug trafficking in the country.
The Afghan caretaker administration has destroyed poppy farms on thousands of hectares of lands in the northern and southern provinces of the country over the past couple of months.– NNN-ANA
