PHOENIX (Arizona, US), June 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Two people were killed when a small plane crashed in Arizona’s Superstition Mountains Saturday morning, according to officials and local reports.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office posted on Twitter that multiple people saw the plane go down, and that air support was able to confirm the crash site.

A local ABC reporter tweeted that authorities with the National Transportation Safety Board confirmed two people died in the crash.

The single-engine plane took off from Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, before it crashed near Apache Junction at around 8 a.m., according to local reports.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been alerted to the crash. No further information was immediately available.

The mountain range is about 40 miles east of Phoenix.

The involved aircraft is a small two-seater airplane, and both individuals onboard are deceased, the Sheriff’s Office’s said in an update hours later, noting that they are working to “positively identify them and notify their next of kin.”

Officials said that the single-engine plane had reportedly been part of a flight involving two other airplanes. — NNN-AGENCIES
