Thai Shippers Forecast Export Growth Up To One Percent This Year

BANGKOK, Jun 7 (NNN-TNA) – The Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC), said yesterday, it expects a zero or up to one percent growth for the country’s export this year, with drags from slowing global demand and economic uncertainties.

Export, a main driver of economic growth for the country, could shrink between five and six percent, year-on-year, in the first half of the year, before improving in the second half, said council chairman, Chaichan Chareonsuk.

The council expects to see an expansion of certain agricultural and food product shipments, in the second half of 2023, helped by last year’s low comparative base, Chaichan told a news conference.

In a statement, the TNSC forecast, the export to expand by 0.6 percent and 12 percent, year-on-year, in the third and final quarters of this year, respectively.– NNN-TNA
