MANILA, Jun 6 (NNN-PNA) – The Philippines reported 1,240 new HIV-positive cases in Apr, among whom 94 percent were male, said the Department of Health (DOH), yesterday.
The DOH said, the newly reported cases ranged from one to 69 years old, with 47 percent in the range of 25 to 34 years old, and 31 percent in 15 to 24 years old. Ninety-eight percent of the new infections were acquired through sexual contact, it added.
Metro Manila was the region with the most newly reported HIV cases, followed by areas adjacent to the capital region.
The Philippines continues to grapple with the deadly highly-infectious disease, since the country diagnosed its first case in 1984. According to DOH, a total of 6,575 people have died from HIV-AIDS so far, in the country.– NNN-PNA
