Over 35,000 Kg Waste Collected From Mt Qomolangma, Other Mountains

KATHMANDU, Jun 6 (NNN-XINHUA) – Teams, led by Nepal Army, collected 35,708 kg waste, left by climbers on Mt. Qomolangma and three other mountains, by yesterday, when they concluded their clean-up campaign.

“A total of 35,708 kg waste have been collected from four different mountains,” Nepal Army spokesman, Krishna Prasad Bhandari, told Xinhua.

The three teams removed 13,621 kg waste from Mt. Qomolangma and Mt. Lhotse, and 3,567 kg and 18,529 kg from Mt. Annapurna and Mt. Baruntse, respectively.

The clean-up campaign started on Mar 28, and ended on the occasion of World Environment Day.

Two Sherpa climbing guides working with the teams lost their lives, while four Nepal Army members were injured in the clean-up campaign, according to the army.

The Nepal Army has been leading in waste collection on Mt. Qomolangma and other tall mountains since 2019.– NNN-XINHUA
