LIMA, June 5 (NNN-ANDINA) — The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) commemorates Afro-Peruvian Culture Day, highlighting Afro-Peruvians’ contribution to the development of the country and reaffirming the Government’s commitment to the promotion of their rights, visibility, and recognition.
“We are proud of our Afro-Peruvian culture!” the government agency tweeted on Sunday.
Afro-Peruvian Culture Day was established to promote visibility and recognition of the contributions made by the Afro-Peruvian population and culture to the construction of the nation and national identity.
Afro-Peruvian folklore is an authentic expression that encompasses Afro-Peruvians’ traditions, customs, music, and dances, among other expressions that have contributed significantly to the multicultural identity of the country.
In June 2006, the Congress of the Republic, through Decree Law No. 28761, declared June 4 as Afro-Peruvian Culture Day. — NNN-ANDINA
