LIMA, June 5 (NNN-ANDINA) — The Ministry of Interior (Mininter), through the Special Project for Control and Reduction of Illegal Crops in Alto Huallaga (Corah), has eradicated 5,609.74 ha of illegal coca crops so far in 2023.
The reduction of this large coca growing area, which includes the elimination of 3,117 plots, prevented the production of 52.39 tons of cocaine hydrochloride.
Eradication actions have been carried out —with the support of the Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro) of the National Police of Peru (PNP)— in three operational axes in four regions across the country.
In Calleria, the first axis, the operations resulted in the reduction of 3,615.82 ha of illegal coca plantations.
In said axis, eradication efforts were carried out in some parts of the district of the same name and in the area known as Utiquia, both in the region of Ucayali.
A second operational axis is Constitucion, which includes an area in the district of the same name, in Pasco region, as well as the jurisdictions of Codo de Pozuzo, Puerto Inca, and Yuyapichis, in the region of Huanuco. In those areas, the Corah project has eradicated 1,276.99 ha of illegal coca crops.
Finally, in the third operational axis, Santa Lucia, which includes areas in Tocache and Polvora districts, both in San Martin region, a total of 716.93 ha of illegal coca crops were eradicated.
It must be noted that these operations will continue to be conducted in the remainder of the year, as part of the “Annual Plan for Reduction of Illegal Coca Growing Area: Promoting Environmental and Social Sustainability in Peru 2023,“ approved by the Interior sector, within the framework of the “National Policy against Drugs to 2030.” — NNN-ANDINA
