Tanzania receives first-ever cargo plane

DAR ES SALAAM, June 4 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — President Samia Suluhu Hassan leads other leaders at a ceremony of receiving a first-ever cargo plane at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam on Saturday and thanked Tanzanians for their support and prayers.

According to the Head of State, through Wananchi’s prayer, her sixth phase Government has managed to execute various mega development projects in the country.

Speaking on Saturday during the historic and colorful ceremony, she asked citizens to maintain such spirit as the government looks for more funds for implementing more projects.

On his part, Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) Managing Director, Ladislaus Matindi said the newly acquired craft, Boeing 767-300F, is expected to significantly reduce costs for exporting cargo, mainly agricultural, fisheries and livestock products.

According to the director, the plane, which can carry up to 54 tonnes of freight, has a range of 11,070 km, fuel-efficient (90770 liters) and a speed of 850km/h.

Giving a brief information on the Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), the Managing Director, Engineer Ladislaus Matindi said the evaluation of the company’s performance in the air cargo transport market in the country has shown great hope as well as the demand for more cargo planes.

Equally, he said that presently ATCL transports seafood from Mozambique to China at an average of eight tonnes per trip. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
