Early elections in Ecuador are focused on insecurity

QUITO, June 3 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Insecurity is one of the main concerns of Ecuadorians, and this issue will mark the campaign for the general elections on August 20th, analysts say.

The candidates will mount their electoral strategy focusing on the wave of violence in the country, and some are already doing so, said Professor Inti Cartuche, from the Faculty of Social and Humanistic Sciences of the Central University of Ecuador.

So far there are at least eight pre-candidates for the presidency to replace Guillermo Lasso, whose decree of “mutual death” forced to hold early elections and the dissolution of Parliament.

None of the applicants has officially registered their candidacy with the National Electoral Council, a term that expires on June 10th.

The expectations are concentrated in the nominations of the Citizen Revolution (RC) movement, led by former president Rafael Correa, considered the one with the greatest support at a national level at the moment.

According to the announced schedule, the electoral campaign will take place between August 8th and 17th, with the first round of elections by August 20th, and a possible second round by October 15th. The new president is expected to be appointed in November. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
