The Gambia hires US lawyers over syrup scandal - report ...

BANJUL, June 3 (NNN-GNA) — In response to a government-funded investigation that revealed the likelihood of contaminated medicine imported from India causing the deaths of over 70 children, the Gambia has reportedly hired a US law firm to explore legal options.

Justice Minister, Dawda Jallow, did not disclose the target of the potential claim or the identity of the law firm involved.

Maiden Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of the cough syrup in question, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. The Indian government has also stated that its tests did not detect any toxins in the medicines.

However, the World Health Organization (WHO) conducted independent tests that revealed the presence of two lethal toxins typically found in car brake fluid.

The hiring of US lawyers suggests that the Gambian government is determined to seek justice and accountability in this tragic incident.

The involvement of legal experts may help the country navigate the complexities of international legal proceedings and provide a platform for a thorough investigation into the syrup scandal.

As the situation unfolds, the affected families and the international community eagerly await further developments in the Gambia’s pursuit of justice for the children who lost their lives due to the contaminated cough syrup. — NNN-GNA
