NEW DELHI, Jun 3 (NNN-PTI) – 50 feared killed and over 350 people were injured, after a passenger train collided with a cargo train last night, in the eastern Indian state of Odisha, local media reports said.
The accident occurred at around 7:20 p.m. local time, near Bahanaga Bazar station, in Balasore district, about 171 km north-east of Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha.
According to officials, the Coromandel Express, which runs from Kolkata to Chennai, hit the Yashwantpur-Howrah Express, which derailed and toppled onto the adjacent track.
Following the accident, various rescue and response teams were quickly dispatched to the site, to conduct necessary measures.
The accident disrupted train movement on the affected route.
Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.
“Distressed by the train accident in Odisha. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon,” a statement issued by Modi said.– NNN-PTI
