SEOUL, Jun 1 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea’s online shopping grew in Apr, due to robust demand for travel and leisure services, statistical office data showed today.
Shopping in cyberspace came to 17.86 trillion won (13.5 billion U.S. dollars) in April, up 6.0 percent from the same month of last year, according to Statistics Korea.
Online demand for travel and transport services spiked 43.3 percent, and the culture and leisure services transaction advanced 22.7 percent.
It was attributed to the lifting of measures against the COVID-19 pandemic that expanded outdoor activities.
Transactions for food and beverage in cyberspace increased in double digits, but demand for food delivery services declined, amid the eased worry about the pandemic.
Mobile shopping through smartphones gained 4.5 percent over the year, to 13.16 trillion won (10 billion dollars) in Apr.– NNN-YONHAP
