TOKYO, Jun 1 (NNN-NHK) – The number of overnight stays by foreigners at hotels and other accommodation facilities in Japan, totalled 10.38 million in Apr, exceeding 10 million for the first time since Jan, 2020, government data showed.
The Apr figure is up 19.5-fold from the same month last year, and 92 percent of the total in Apr, 2019, before the coronavirus outbreak, according to the preliminary data, released by the Japan Tourism Agency yesterday.
As for Japanese travellers, the figure climbed to 37.24 million, up 12.5 percent year-on-year, but down 5.6 percent from the pre-pandemic year of 2019, the data showed.
The total overnight stays by foreign and Japanese guests at such facilities came to 47.63 million, up 41.6 percent from a year earlier, but down 6.1 percent from Apr, 2019.– NNN-NHK
