ABUJA, May 18 (NNN-NAN) – Nigerian police, yesterday confirmed, 30 local people were killed in recent deadly attacks, on two neighbouring villages in the country’s central Plateau state.
Alfred Alabo, spokesman for the police in Plateau, said in a statement that, at least five suspects in connection with the attacks have so far been arrested, as more policemen have been deployed to the Fungzai and Kubat villages, in the Mangu local government area of the state, following the overnight attacks by gunmen.
Alabo said, the police are still hunting down other gunmen on the run.
The police received and responded to a distress call from one of the nearby villages to Fungzai and Kubat, late Monday, about gunmen who were shooting sporadically at local residents, the police spokesperson said.
Due to the superior firepower of the security operatives, the gunmen abandoned four motorcycles, a minivan, and some items used for their nefarious activities, he added.
In light of the alarming situation, the Plateau state government declared a 24-hour curfew in the affected areas, with the aim to restrict movement and ensure the safety of residents.– NNN-NAN
