LOS ANGELES, May 15 (NNN-XINHUA) – Disney and Marvel Studios’ superhero film, “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3” stayed atop the North American box office chart, with an estimated three-day cume of 60.5 million U.S. dollars on its second weekend, data from measurement firm Comscore showed, yesterday.
After 10 days on the big screen, “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3” grossed 213.2 million dollars in North America. Overseas, the film earned 152.4 million dollars this weekend, bringing the international cume to 315.6 million dollars.
Worldwide, “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3” is at 528.8 million dollars, with 58.4 million dollars coming from the Chinese mainland.
Based on the Marvel Comics superhero team, Guardians of the Galaxy, the film is the final installment in the “Guardians” film trilogy. James Gunn writes and directs the film, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff.– NNN-XINHUA
In a distant second place, Universal Pictures’ animated film “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” took in 13 million dollars on its sixth weekend for a North American total of nearly 536 million dollars. The film has grossed more than 1.21 billion dollars worldwide.
Rounding out the top three, Focus Features’ romantic comedy film “Book Club: The Next Chapter” generated 6.5 million dollars on its opening weekend.
