CAIRO, May 3 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, discussed yesterday with his U.S. counterpart, Antony Blinken, the latest developments in Sudan.
During a phone call, the two top diplomats touched on efforts exerted, to reach a prolonged and sustainable cease-fire that would allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to those who deserve it inside Sudan, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said, in a statement.
Shoukry stressed the importance of not fuelling the conflict in Sudan, by the interference of external parties, to ensure the stabilisation of the cease-fire and the protection of civilians, whose lives are at risk, as a result of the continuation of the armed conflict.
For his part, Blinken thanked Egypt for receiving tens of thousands of Sudanese citizens, arriving across the border, stressing the U.S. readiness to provide the necessary support to Egypt, to facilitate carrying out this task.
Fighting erupted on Apr 15, between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and other parts of the country.
