KATHMANDU, Nepal, April 24 (NNN-NEPALNEWS) – An Australian trekker died of high altitude sickness, at a hotel near Pasanglhamu rural municipality-4 of Khumbu region, in Nepal, police said here on Wednesday.

Philip Markart Garz, 31, passed away at the base camp of the peak, at around 1:00 p.m. local time on Monday, when he was taking a rest at the hotel, Police Inspector, Uttam Karki, said.

“We came to know about the incident only yesterday, and a police team rushed immediately to the place where he died,” Karki said today.

According to Karki, the reason behind his death is the high altitude sickness. “It takes three days of walking to reach the base camp of Mt. Qomolangma, from the place where he breathed his last,” he said.

His body was sent to Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, this morning.
