Kenya: Accident kills 10, injures 17 at Josa, Wundanyi – Mwatate highway

NAIROBI, April 17 (NNN-KBC) — At least 10 people have been confirmed dead, and 17 others injured after the bus they were travelling in rolled at Josa Area along the Wundanyi-Mwatate road in Taita Taveta.

According to police, the bus ferrying mourners from a burial at Mghambonyi area.

“Our preliminary investigations indicate that the motor vehicle was moving from Wundanyi General direction heading towards Mwatate direction.  Upon reaching Josa area, the vehicle veered off the road and rolled several times before landing into a ditch about 100 metres from the road.” said police.

Confirming the incident, Mwatate sub-county police commander Morris Okul said the number of casualties could rise.

Three children and one infant are among the injured.

Police say all the victims were taken to Mwatate Sub County Hospital and Moi Level 5 Hospital for treatment.

Police officers have initiated further investigations, calling on drivers, especially those who are not familiar with the road to be more careful. — NNN-KBC
