COLOMBO, Apr 16 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology, issued a heat index advisory for today, warning the public of increased temperatures.
The department said, those living in the Eastern and North Central provinces and in Kurunegala, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Mannar, Moneragala and Hambantota districts must be cautious of high temperatures.
The heat index is calculated using relative humidity and maximum temperature and its impact on the body.
The Department of Meteorology advised people to stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade as often as possible, limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade, and wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
Mar and Apr are relatively warmer months in Sri Lanka.– NNN-XINHUA
