HAVANA, April 16 (NNN-ACN) — The US Coast Guard Service returned 28 irregular migrants to Cuba on Thursday, who had already made two illegal attempts to reach US territory.
According to the Cuban Interior Ministry, the group made up of 22 men and six women were returned to the Orozco port, Bahia Honda, in the western province of Artemisa.
Most of the persons are residents of western Matanzas and central Sancti Spiritus provinces.
The US Coast Guard Service has thus far returned 2,326 persons in 35 actions this year which, along with other similar operations from countries of the region have taken the number of returned irregular migrants to 3,116 in all.
Cuba keeps its firm commitment to a regular, safe and orderly migration and has reiterated its alert about the danger and risk for life entailed by illegal departures by sea. — NNN-ACN
